In his November 21, 2018 article, Win McCormack, Editor in Chief of The New Republic, discusses Gary Hart’s 30 years of contributions to American government and American political discourse — made after the events covered in the recent film The Front Runner. Hart’s mantra became, he told McCormack, “we must protect and secure our rights by the performance of our duties — meaning participation in self-government.”
McCormack closes the article by paralleling Hart’s view with those of James and Deborah Fallows in Our Towns. Local level solutions from engaged citizens working across ideological lines is the way cities are accomplishing projects that benefit the entire community.
