In his October 25, 2018 column, Southern California News Group reporter David Allen described the Fallowses keynote at an Ontario, CA economic development conference. “Some towns, in the Rust Belt especially, have embraced immigrants and refugees as a way to revive the falling population. And young people who are committed to making a change in their hometowns have sparked renewal too, as have those who tried city life but wanted the civic engagement and affordable place to live of a smaller town. Deborah focused on examples of “the good libraries can do.” They are, she said, “quiet markers for the generosity of American life.”
